Professional Credentials/Experience

Jackie graduated with a Master's degree from New York University and has been a certified member of the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association (ASHA) for more than 30 years. She is licensed in the state of New Jersey as a speech-language pathologist, and is certified by the New Jersey Department of Education as a speech-language specialist.

Jackie has been employed by a local public school district for 19 years as a speech-language specialist and assistive technology specialist. She has extensive experience with evaluating children for speech, language, and social learning difficulties, and she understands how these difficulties can impact a child's ability to read and write. Jackie writes measurable goals and objectives that are used to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions. As the assistive technology specialist, Jackie manages a district-wide initiative for students with dyslexia/learning disabilities. The Google Chrome extension, Read&Write provides literacy support by making the web and documents more accessible for reluctant readers, as well as for individuals with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Students who may benefit from using an augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) system are evaluated by Jackie, who then provides training for staff and parents. She is also a Technology Turnkey Trainer for the district, with responsibilities that include creating technology courses, and providing tech instruction for district staff.

In working with children who struggle socially to connect with others, Jackie has embraced the Social Thinking® methodology of world-renowned expert, Michelle Garcia Winner (SocialThinking.com). Jackie has attended over 75 hours of training with Winner and/or her Collaboration, and recently attended the Social Thinking® Clinical Training Program, Level 1, in Boston. For social group sessions, Jackie creates activities that address specific skills or concepts, and then provides a fun environment in which the clients can practice. Parents are provided with information that will help them to work on these skills/concepts at home. See the Social Groups page for more information on social learning groups that are available.

Having worked in many different therapeutic settings, Jackie has provided services to individuals age one to young adult. She provided speech and language services at the Matheny School, United Cerebral Palsy of New York City, and at a Pediatric Rehab Center. For 10 years, Jackie worked for the State of NJ, Department of Human Services, Office of Education, Technology for Life and Learning Center. She provided augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) assessments to children age 3-21, who came from public school districts and special education schools in New Jersey. She worked closely with school staff and families to provide training with regard to customizing vocabulary, programming the communication device, and modeling communication.

Jackie has given presentations on augmentative/alternative communication, PODD - Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display, iPad apps, and Read&Write for Google Chrome.
